Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a British and American sitar player. She also sings. She was the very first and youngest female to be awarded a British House of Commons Award. Anoushka Shankar is one of India's rising stars in the sitar. She is both the daughter and pupil of Ravi Shankar. Her birthplace was in London in 1982 and spent her early years shuttling to London and New Delhi. At New Delhi, she made her first appearance at only 13 years old. Then, in Encinitas CA she attended high school. She graduated with distinction in the year 1999. Anouskha was only 17 years old, has had an impressive recording and performing career. She frequently joins her father in performances this she's done for a number of years. The first album she released as a solo artist, Anourag, was released in 1998. She released Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album a year following. Her career on stage is extensive for she has been in every one of the biggest venues in the world. Anoushka Shankar's professional life isn't restricted to just the music industry. Bapi The Love of My Life is a illustrated biographical work she penned in 2002. It is a tribute to her father who died in the year 2000. Ravi Shankar. She has also acted in movies in 2003. She played the role in the film Dance Like a Man where she plays the role of a teenage Bharat Natyam dancer. Anoushka is continuing to advance in her career and will surely be more things to come from this talented woman. Anoushka Shankar was born in England and spent a lot of her early years in London and Delhi then moving to California where she went to high school. In Delhi at his 75thbirthday celebration, Anoushka made her debut as a sitar player before the crowd of at the age of four, following her nine year old father. Anoushka was able to gain a great deal of experience touring around the globe along with her dad. She appeared at Carnegie Hall in her teenage period, as well as recorded for George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. The House of Commons Shield was presented an award from the British Parliament in recognition of being the pre-eminent Asian Arts musician. She is the sole female and youngest recipient of this award.
